More healthcare workers to take weekend shifts in Denmark’s capital hospitals.

In order to ease the workload for healthcare workers and improve work-life balance, Region Hovedstaden in Denmark is proposing that weekend and holiday shifts be distributed among more employees, including those who typically only work weekdays. The proposal would require nurses and other healthcare professionals to take a minimum of 18 weekend and holiday shifts per year. The plan will be discussed by a collaboration committee on May 10th and is expected to be approved by hospital directors on May 11th. The new policy would apply to new hires starting in June 2023 and to existing employees by May 2024 at the latest. The goal is to maintain staff and improve the quality of care for patients.
